Well, I broke down and got a steady job working for the USPS. Which has an advantage. It will eventually give me the flexibility to work as much or as little as I want. But it is not somewhere that I want to be for 20 years. I still want to get my design work up and going. I know my problem is not advertising as much and as correctly as I should. I should be more worried/concerned but I know (hope) it will all work out in the end.

In other breaking news. Owen will be a BIG BROTHER in May. Which is exciting in and amongst itself, but it gives me another slight push to work at my personal project again.

Along with these updates, there is a business change I want to make public. I have changed by billing procedures. I will no longer be charging by the hour. I will be charging based on individual project. This will hopefully sooth upcoming clients that I will not be dilly dallying with my time and their money. I am here to make people's homes more colorful and fun, and yes to make enough money to be able to make this my full time job. But not to rob people blind.

So, I hope this makes people feel more comfortable and willing to have a new design created for their space, by ME!

I charge $15 an hour, first in house consultation is free, I offer 10% discount for Expecting Moms and 10% discount for 2010 Flood Victims. I also will pay $20.00 for referring a paying client my way.
Okay everyone I know times are tough and money is tight so I am offering ANOTHER discount. I really want to get this business up off the ground and if it is by giving people discounts: then I will give the people what they want.

This Surfboard Mural took 2 days to complete.
8 Hours a day (16 hours total)
$15 an hour
equals=$240

April's Recruiting "Friends" Contest

I need more friends for my "TOTS2TEENS" Facebook Page. So, I thought what better way to get more friends than to have a contest. It's simple. Tell all your friends, family and coworkers about my page. Ask them to "become a fan" and then to write on my wall Your Name. (that way I can keep track who has the most recruits.) And once your friends join the page, they can also recruit and hopefully win the contest.

So, you are asking, what is the prize? You have a choice. You can choose from:

A. One custom canvas with any kind of design, style and detail. The canvas may be any size 16" x 20" and under. If over that size all you would need to pay for is the canvas. The time and paint is still free.

or

B. 25% off any other design project. Whether it be a mural, a larger collection of canvases or painted or fabric covered display letters. Anything you choose.

This contest will be held the entire month of April. There can only be one winner. In the case of a tie, the contest will continue for the people within the tie and the next posted name on the wall will be the winner.

For the past 3 months I have been working like crazy to get artwork to display for the upcoming Christmas Bazaar being held at Jenkins Church in Nolensville, Tn on Saturday November 7th. Of course I hope to sell some of these pieces but the main reason I did this was to draw people's attention to my kids bedroom design business. And to show my talent. Expecting!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that Jon and I are expecting our first baby in June. We found out we were pregnant 1 month and 1 day after our wedding. We found out today that it is a boy. And while we are not for sure on a name yet, we are very excited to be expecting a son!

Other news:
I got laid off from my job in the beginning of the year. (that is a long story for another time) But while I am trying to find another job in this horrible economy so I can get a steady pay check each week. I am also focusing more time into this business. So, I could use all the help I can get!

I will be paying $25 to anyone who sends me a paying client referrals. So, tell everyone you know about me and my great work :) and it could get you $25 cash (not a gift certificate).

So, back to black. I found this painting on Ebay and absolutely had to have it. I don't even like martinis but the colors were perfect. And I knew it would pop with a black wall in front of it. So I painted one wall our dinning room black. (don't have a cow, the whole downstairs is open so its not dark at all.)

So what do you think?

Coming soon the opposite wall in the kitchen will also be black.

Trashy 1/2 Bath

Now, if you haven't been able to tell I like bright colors and to take risks. After I took a big risk painting my 1/2 bath Black, I had a fellow mother say she always think as black as Juvenille and Trashy. So, here is my "Trashy" Half Bath. I like getting a reaction out of people. So, I am proud to be "trashy"

American Boy

This is my son's room at his father's house. And took about 20 hours to complete. I did not paint the "American Boy" it is lettering from a company called "Uppercase Living"

Little Leanne

Leanne is my niece and I did this room for her. It started out being one shade of pink with white alternating thing stripes for texture but it ended up looking like glue so I added a metallic pink on top of the white stripes to keep the texture but to get rid of the glue look. Painting and design sometimes is hit and miss. Ideas don't always come out like you expect but the good thing about paint is that it can be painted over for a whole new look.

This is my niece and you can see behind her the textured lines.

These are two murals I did for the fire house pizza located in Smyrna. They are great guys there and you should stop in to try their pizza and check out the great art they have there.

My Past Work

I started the idea of this business around May of 06 after having a boss during my internship that I was not too happy with. I thought to myself that I did not want to work for someone else and would much rather be my own boss. So I started doing projects for friends and family and a few clients. I put it on the back burner while I went through personal stuff and actually found a job that I am very happy with. And haven't advertised like I should because 1 part laziness, 1 part busyness (is that a contridiction?) and 1 part because of my shyness (no one believes that I am shy)
So this is my first start... A blog to show the world (at least the internet world) my work.
Well here it is, please let me know what you think good, bad or indifferent!

Yee-HAW
This is my very first project and believe it or not it was an actual paying customer! It was a cowboy themed room. The bottom half is painted in red to look like a bandana with a real rope dividing the top half, which is a linen weave faux finish.
One wall had a mural painted (which my very first) and if I don't say so myself looked Awesome. I added details to the hat, fence, cactus and boots.
I also add white fluffy clouds to the ceiling. This job to 28 hours to complete. Enjoy!

RUBBER DUCKIE
My next prjoct was a friends Bathroom. It is pretty Self Explanitory and took 4 hours.

Bored or BoardThis next project was another paying customer, who wanted a beach inspired bathroom. This project to 17 hours.
My personal favorite is the peep-hole...

and the seagul you can see wayyyyyyy in the back of the picture near the door.

GAMER-AHOLIC
This next room I did for my younger teenage brother. He is one of those creatures that plays only video games. I painted three of the walls gray and the head board wall red. I painted what I call a "heart beat" line across the middle with a graffiti inspired tag. The heart beat line even went through the doors.
This project took between 10-12 hours to complete.

I have a very wild, bright and colorful style and have a good friend whose style matched mine. So, I was able to paint a lot of things in her first house. She helped me with my portfolio and I helped her with free labor.
NICKELODEONThis room is my nickelodeon inspired room. This was for her 3 boys, who wanted something fun and colorfull and I think I gave them just what they were looking for...at the end of the 3 blobs we ended up painting each of the boys name, so each boy got its own blob.

EASTER EGGThis next room was for her 2 girls and we called it the easter egg. The room had polka dots over various sizes all the head board wall with a larger circle and their names where the head board goes in the center. And alternating stripes on the rest of the walls.

GONE WILDIn the master bedroom I painted zebra stripes on the doors and I think it looks "WILD"

COCA COLAMy friend has everything coca cola for her kitchen and wanted something to go along with that theme. I painted alternating squares to look like tiles with grout because they couldn't afford to have real tiles. Here is a picture before the appliances and face plates were back in...

Name is the Game

This piece I already have vision in my head, and I am so excited about doing. It is a scrabble theme, and I am thinking of doing it for my upcoming bundle of joy. I am going to paint the canvas like a table. Get another kind of paper (probably watercolor paper) I cut it into the actual size of a scrabble board, and paint it to look exactly like a real scrabble board, and then glue real scrabble letters on the board. And even on the “table” part glue the little stand where you put your letters for two people. And paint the little bag you pick your letters from and glue some letters falling out of the bag. I hope that makes sense, because it looks really cool in my head.
